If you don’t know what Daly.City.High.School is then you’re probably not from the Bay and if you are, then you must be under 30 or something. Anyway, I named this mix “Daly.City.High.School” because I wanted a phrase that represented my high school years. Hearing that phrase reminds me of playin’ dos first of all, and going to school dances, bullshittin’ in the halls, housing, breakin in the gym/quad, kickin back at the bus stop smoking newports, etc… A time when things were simple. Remember slow dancing with that fly girl you’ve been diggin’ at school!? When was the last time you slow danced!!!??? I present to you….The Hiero Translations. This is a project that I’ve been working on since earlier this year. Days of diggin’, doing my homework and trying to locate the original samples that were responsible for the Hiero classics you grew up nodding your head to. Hieroglyphics was one of the most influential hip-hop crews to me growing up so doing this project meant a lot to me. Being a Hiero head myself and being able to lace up the youngsters, newcomers, and even existing Heiro heads, has been a real honor. I love watching people’s reactions when they listen to the mix and say “what!!?? Oh shit….that’s where that’s from!!”. It’s just a dope feeling to be able to translate the Hiero catalogue and educate cats on Hiero and how they transformed music from our past into the ill shit we have in our itunes today. Enjoy!
